Danielle B shows
Hello Everyone, I am Danielle and thank you for listening to some of my favourite music from the Carribean. I was born in the early nineties when I suppose the rave scene was just starting to kick off. Being young and not yet in my teenage years I never really connected to that genre of music.
I grew up with parents who musical tastes were quite different, my dad enjoyed indie bands like Oasis, The Verve and Elbow, whereas my mum has always loved reggae. I followed in her footsteps and listened to greats such as Ken Booth & Jimmy Cliff as well as newer stuff like ragga and dancehall. One of my favourite bands is UB40, who I have now had the pleasure of seeing live 5 or more times.
One of my favourite memories is when we had a house warming party when I was about 10 and all the women and girls were dancing to Dawn Penn’s, No No No! We were all laughing so much and it was such a great memory, that it probably greatly influenced me in the choice of music I love.
Of course growing up in the nineties I had the obsession for the spice girls like most young girls did but I noticed as I hit 12+ my musical tastes really changed and I became passionate about reggae music. I can honestly say though, that I love nearly all genres of music, when it comes to music I really feel like an old soul. When the mood hits me I love listening to artists like Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton, John lennon and Frank Sinatra. So a really diverse mix.
But out of everyone I listen to, no one touches my soul as much as Bob Marley. The tone of his voice, the beat and lyrics just seem to resonate through me. My all time favourite song is Waiting in Vain. I was lucky enough to visit Jamaica in 2015 and I loved every single minute.
Reggae, ska & rocksteady is the sort of music that unites people and I hope my music connects with you too. Enjoy xx
