Dan Jones shows

My name is Dan, I was born in the year 1972; and apparently this makes me older than the first mobile phone ever invented.

As a young lad growing up in the leafy suburbs of London, it was pretty bleak looking back, but we always made fun whenever we could, and looking back I wouldn’t change it.

My dad, a seasoned musician and singer was booked every weekend Friday to Sunday, it was his only real passion. When I was 7 , my Dad bought me a ¾ size guitar to learn with; he found me one evening sitting on his bed playing his stage guitar, I’m still not sure if it was my lack of ability or the fact I hadn’t asked to have a go, but, he wasn’t happy, and thought it was time for me to have my own guitar.

I still play today, I play to relax and to enjoy the gift I inherited from my dad, its an instrument that many people play, but very rarely tame or even master.

In the late 1980’s I started listening to pirate radio and got hooked on the early rave scene, the electronic digital era was upon us with a vengeance, a mix of house and techno born in to a new genre which eventually led me to DJing, It was perfect for me, my musical ability, knowledge of music, amplification, frequency, dabbling with production mixed with my eclectic mix of electronica through to gypsy jazz,

I later pre-produced much of my set list at home as the technology at the time hadn’t been invented to be used with any confidence live. These where the techniques used many years later by some of the successful artists of the time.

I was invited here by Geoff, aka MackDaddy, We were talking on FB and he was explaining that he wanted to make sure he was prepared for any eventuality when out gigging, at which then I replied, “you can plan to a point, but in the end you have to just let destiny take its course”. Then I told him a story that he said I should share with you all, I laugh now, here goes.

So I turned up at this gig, the venue, a social club in a very affluent area, for a 70 th birthday party; why I agreed to it I still don’t know, Anyway, I had a large stage, remote control curtains, my gear and lights filled the stage, I knew it was a 70 th so had a large selection of music, everything was perfect.

Just before I kicked off I found the daughter of the 70 year old who booked me, she said she was going to ring me to cancel but had had a lot going on, she went on to say, they had paid for me and the club, but the club wouldn’t give a refund, and the 70 year old (her dad) had died two days before, worst gig of my life, for a better word. Brutal.

With DJing, Timing is everything while time waits for nothing.
MackDaddy is uploading my mixes, I’m a bit rusty, but I hope you enjoy xxx
